The outline of the narrative is that there is a letter that is cursed. The letter is written by a mysterious character whose identity is kept hidden throughout the sequence and leaves the letter in a market. He plans for three innocent girls to find the letter and open it to reveal the curse. The three girls will open the letter and not truly understand it until one of them goes missing. The film focuses on finding their lost friend whilst also trying to work our the story behind the curse and the identity of the mysterious character.
From the start of the sequence suspense is already being built through sound and the mystery of the character. As the low non-diegetic sound increases slightly in volume an becomes layered with drones, the audience automatically feel that something is going to happen that will be important to the narrative. Suspense is built through this as the audience are not aware of what is going to happen but do know that something will happen to impact the story. As soon as the audience are introduced to the three female characters, they immediately get the sense that these girls are in danger and realise that they are the main characters.
